Whisper to produce Usyk v Joshua 2

Max Miller
Skill Challenge Entertainment appoints production company to deliver world feed

Whisper has been selected to produce the world feed of Oleksandr Usyk v Anthony Joshua later this month.

The rematch takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 20 August, and comes after Usyk won the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight belts by defeating Joshua on points last year. Whisper will work with international partners such as Sky Sports Box Office in the UK, on the production.

Whisper’s production team will include Whisper’s head of sport Pete Thomas, who has worked on world title fights featuring Joe Calzaghe, Amir Khan, Carl Froch and the early career of Tyson Fury, plus the World Series of Boxing; executive producer John Curtis, who has worked in boxing for last 15 years on headline pay-per-view events, such as Mayweather v Pacquiao, Klitschko vs Fury and Froch v Groves; Bethan Evans, Whisper’s director of production; and Sunil Patel and Mark Cole, who are executive producers.

The delivery team will include members from the UK, as well as local crew. In addition, Whisper is working with Chapter 3 Graphics on audio-visual effects and an immersive, entertaining lighting experience.

This comes after Whisper produced a promo for the bout last week.

Patel, who is also Whisper CEO, said: Patel, Whisper CEO: “A heavyweight Championship title remains one of the biggest prizes in sport. This is such a prestigious event and we share the ambition of Skill Challenge Entertainment to make Rage on the Red Sea a fight night to remember globally.  We love delivering huge sporting moments that entertain the world and this is a huge moment in boxing. Credit to John Curtis for all his work in securing this opportunity and for the whole Whisper team for making it happen.”

  • The atmosphere at MPTS has been amazing this year. MPTS is definitely one of the industry’s most diverse shows, if not the most diverse, both in terms of attendees and panelists. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that there is equal representation across an extensive conference programme.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.
