Stone Dogs launches colour facility

Development includes three client-focused rooms alongside a central production and quality control area

VFX and finishing house Stone Dogs has opened a new colour facility.

With three client-focused rooms alongside a central production and quality control area, it includes a dedicated flame suite, a multi-purpose flame/flame assist/grading/MGFX suite, and a grading suite using Davinci Resolve.

The hardware includes a brand new 31” Eizo Prominence and a DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel to sit underneath, as well as a Mac Studio - M1 Ultra to run it all. It has also acquired Flanders Scientific reference monitors for the flames, and has had a colour scientist calibrate all of the screens for continuity from grade to online.

The facility has been operational since 1 August, in which time Stone Dogs has completed grade and full post on three projects.

Brian Carbin, Stone Dogs co-founder and flame artist, said: “We are looking to offer a friendly, relaxed, and above all creative space, where directors and agencies can collaborate with like-minded people to produce the content they had imagined when crafting the creative. We can’t wait to work on the new and different projects this expansion will bring in, spanning commercials, episodic programming, TV promos and sponsorship idents.”

Dave Kiddie, fellow co-founder and VFX artist, added: “We’d always planned to introduce grading at Stone Dogs, having even set out to incorporate it into our offering at the start of 2020 - but we were struck back by the pandemic. Following the full lifting of restrictions and the premises move to Lincoln House earlier this year, the pieces have finally fallen into place to see our ambition come to life, and we are delighted for its long-anticipated debut.”

  • The atmosphere at MPTS has been amazing this year. MPTS is definitely one of the industry’s most diverse shows, if not the most diverse, both in terms of attendees and panelists. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that there is equal representation across an extensive conference programme.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.
