NEP switches to recycled biofuel for OB trucks

Jake Bickerton
The move is part of the company’s ambitions to achieve carbon neutrality

NEP is moving to recycled biofuel to power its fleet of OB trucks, to reduce its CO2 emissions as it attempts to achieve carbon net zero / carbon neutrality.

NEP UK is switching to GD+ HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) for all its OB trucks. The fuel, supplied by Green Biofuels, is an ultra-low emission sustainable alternative fuel that requires no vehicle modifications for diesel engines.

It’s made from 100% waste organic matter, such as used cooking oils, fats and other Agri waste.

With the move to GD+ HVO, NEP is reducing its greenhouse gases related to transport by 95%, and reducing tail pipe emissions by up to 85%.

Biofuel doesn’t completely reduce emissions to net zero, so NEP UK will also offset any remaining emissions through a carbon offsetting programme.

Simon Moorhead, managing director, NEP UK Broadcast Services, said: “NEP UK is committed to sustainable productions and minimising our environmental impact as we move towards becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Switching our fleet to be powered by GD+ HVO is one of the key initiatives we have committed to in the UK to support NEP’s global ‘Project Earth’ environmental sustainability initiative. We have agreed to responsible business targets that place sustainability at the heart of our operations and business. We believe that doing business that is right for the earth is the right thing to do.”

Justin Readings, transport manager for NEP added: “We have been working with our clients and partners to reduce the carbon footprint for all broadcast sports and through this joint effort with Green Biofuels we can bring about fundamental changes which reflects our commitment to climate change.”

  • The atmosphere at MPTS has been amazing this year. MPTS is definitely one of the industry’s most diverse shows, if not the most diverse, both in terms of attendees and panelists. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that there is equal representation across an extensive conference programme.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.
