MPTS shortlisted for three Exhibition News Indy Awards

MPTS returned to Olympia London this year with record attendance and exhibitor numbers

The Media Production & Technology Show has been shortlisted for three Exhibition News Indy Awards.

It is among the events up for the Trade Show of the Year, Most Impressive Growth - Trade Show, and Indy Event Director of the Year with Broadcast Tech & Sport Group director Charlotte Wheeler. The full shortlist for the awards, which are for independently run trade shows, can be found here.

MPTS returned this year following two years away due to the pandemic, with record-breaking numbers of visitors and exhibitors attending Olympia London from 11-12 May for what was the first broadcast trade show in Europe post-pandemic.

After 5,500 attended the last in-person Media Production & Technology Show in 2019, this time round over 8,000 came through the doors to visit the 230+ exhibitor trade show - a 100% increase on stands on the 2019 event. In addition, visitors were also able to take in a packed conference with 130 live sessions and 250 hours of content, all free, with 330 speakers from the creative and technical sides of broadcast and production.

In addition, with an enforced two-year gap between shows, the Media Production & Technology Show also ran MPTS Connect during its pause, a virtual programme that engaged over 3,000 people across 3 days online in 2021.

MPTS 2022

Looking ahead to 2023, MPTS is already over 75% sold out with over six months until the show goes ahead on 10-11 May.

Wheeler said: “The team are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for these awards representing shows which have been developed and delivered for their markets independently from the larger exhibition organisers. The show has been on a rollercoaster ride since its launch in 2016 and that is down to a tenacious and seriously hardworking team and the invaluable customer support this event receives – we couldn’t have got the show to where it is today without either.”

The Exhibition News Indy Awards night is also returning for the first time since 2019 this year, and is being held at the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) Moorgate on 21 October.

EN editor Emily Wallin said: “Independent organisers, those not backed by private equity or part of a larger group, have had to battle the hardest to survive through the past few years. At Exhibition News we often champion their brilliant achievements in our publications, but it is fantastic to be able to reward their hard work with the return of our Indy Awards this year.

“The calibre of entries this year has blown us away. We were especially impressed by the number of launches during incredibly straining times for events organisers. It was also welcome to see so many supporting venues and suppliers nominated by the organisers who rely on them.”

  • The atmosphere at MPTS has been amazing this year. MPTS is definitely one of the industry’s most diverse shows, if not the most diverse, both in terms of attendees and panelists. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that there is equal representation across an extensive conference programme.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.
