Jigsaw24 launches post-production training courses

Max Miller
Scheme expands previous work with The Picture Shop

Jigsaw24 has launched a range of technical training courses for the post-production industry.

This expands on the training scheme that the company launched with The Picture Shop (then The Farm) earlier this year, which has just completed it second cycle and will continue.

The new offering includes both bespoke courses designed around a single client’s requirements for in-house teams, and scheduled training sessions that individuals can sign up for to learn about specific technologies or workflows. All training is hands-on and in-person – either at the client’s facility or at Jigsaw24 Media’s training centre in London.

Jigsaw24’s project delivery team has always provided clients with technical training as part of their professional services when implementing solutions or completing installations at post facilities, and individual team members at the company also hold certifications as Avid instructors on the technical support curriculum. This move formalises these offerings and opens them up to the wider post-production sector.

The first series of training courses are centred around Avid workflows, and are listed below.

Jigsaw24 first training series

  • NEXIS shared storage technical fundamentals – a two-day technical fundamentals course designed to provide a solid grounding in Avid NEXIS shared storage.- - Optimising media Composer for NEXIS workflows – a crash course that will help users identify and implement best practices for their shared storage workflow, whether they’re using NEXIS or an older
  • Avid shared storage platform.Avid MediaCentral production management – a two-day technical fundamentals course focusing on the operation of MediaCentral | Production
  • Management, including its key components, integration with the wider MediaCentral ecosystem and third-party applications.

These courses will run quarterly, starting from November 2022 and are open for individual or group bookings. The range of courses offered in this way will be expanded to include other vendors in the new year, with an EditShare course already planned for early 2023.

Jigsaw24 Media strategy director, David Skeggs, said: “Our decision to launch a range of technical training courses was motivated by a number of different factors. Firstly, we recognised that there is a massive resource and talent shortage in the industry and that, with big engineering teams at post facilities and broadcasters becoming increasingly scarce, so too is the capacity for structured in-house training.

“We also believe that there is a gap between the creative application of technology that most universities and colleges focus on and the nuts and bolts of using that technology as part of an end-to-end workflow.  By combining our team’s on-the-ground experience and technical qualifications and providing a range of courses to suit different needs, our new training provision is designed to help fill these gaps.”

  • The atmosphere at MPTS has been amazing this year. MPTS is definitely one of the industry’s most diverse shows, if not the most diverse, both in terms of attendees and panelists. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that there is equal representation across an extensive conference programme.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.
