Final Pixel opens New York virtual production lab
Final Pixel has opened a virtual production lab in New York, USA.
The facility is vendor agnostic, and will be used to build, test and train the latest virtual production technology and equipment. It aims to build knowledge and on-set experience of virtual production workflows, technology and practices.
The test stage is run in conjunction with Final Pixel’s training and development arm, the Final Pixel Academy, which was launched in November of last year. It will host a number of upcoming training days and workshops in February including an Introduction to Virtual Production, and Virtual Production for Producers.
Jim Rider, who joined Final Pixel as virtual production supervisor in October last year, said: “This lab is vital for Final Pixel to continue to push the boundaries on all the latest developments in virtual production. Virtual production technology and techniques are constantly evolving, so having this space in the heart of one of the most creative cities in the world enables us to build virtual sets while attracting and bringing in talent from the VFX and production community to help us continue to make magic happen through virtual production.”
Final Pixel’s Monica Hinden, Chris McKenna and Michael McKenna recently spoke to Broadcast Tech editor Jake Bickerton on the tech Talks podcast, speaking in-depth about what virtual production offers producers; the long list of advantages for filmmaking in an LED Volume stage; and the planning and approach required to maximise the potential of virtual production.
