Avid adds Pro Tools compatability to Media Composer

Users can now export Media Composer files directly into Pro Tools

Avid has updated its Media Composer software with a number of new features.

Overall, the features aim to allow for greater collaboration between video and audio post teams, bringing their workflows closer together.

Users will now be able to export Media Composer files directly to Pro Tools, through the use of .PTX files. This aims to be the first step towards collaborative workflows for the two products, which Avid has identified as a user need following customer workshops.

David Colantuoni, vice president of product management video and media solutions at Avid, said: “Media Composer interoperability with Pro Tools was accelerated by collaborating with the Avid Community Association to deliver the workflow enabler our industry has been asking for to accelerate production of high-quality content. The ability to easily export files into Pro Tools, combined with the expanded ‘remote editorial’ experience in Media Composer, enables production teams to more easily complete projects on time and on budget.”

Jonathan Wales, re-recording mixer at Warner Bros. Studios, added: “Avid continues to listen to and collaborate with its customers to address the biggest challenges in today’s modern post production community. Media Composer interoperability with Pro Tools bridges video and audio post production teams, creating new efficiency by streamlining picture and sound workflows that accelerate content creation.”

In addition, the update sees full support for Avid’s MBOX Studio - which gives editors a solution for recording, punch-ins and multichannel monitoring of sequences in up to 7.1 surround sound.

In terms of video editing, there are a number of improvements, including a implified UI for new users, a simplified media relink workflow, integration of the Media Composer Enterprise editing tool and the Avid Nexis Edge solution for remote editing and proxy workflows, and more content review capabilities with editors able to have up to 10 active I/O plug-ins simultaneously.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.
