State of the Nation: Post Production

15 May 2024
Post Production

This session takes the temperature of the post-production market as we approach the middle of 2024. The year was predicted to have a challenging start for post-production facilities, with a lack of work coming through to post due to the ongoing commissioning slowdown, and projects still not yet having finished production following the 2023 writers and actors strikes. Are productions now starting to fill up post houses? Is it anticipated there will soon be a traffic jam of productions awaiting post-production, mirroring the post-pandemic return the industry witnessed in 2021/22? How are post houses gearing up for this? The session will also look at the tech impacting post in 2024; If and how facilities are adopting the latest GenAI developments and hybrid/cloud-working to add efficiencies and help enable creativity? Furthermore, we’ll look at the talent shortage in post-production and what practical measures are being taken to skill up the next generation of editors, colourists and engineers.

  • The atmosphere at MPTS has been amazing this year. MPTS is definitely one of the industry’s most diverse shows, if not the most diverse, both in terms of attendees and panelists. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that there is equal representation across an extensive conference programme.

  • It has been a wonderful two days at MPTS. It was well attended with technology everywhere. The show was full of people from the industry, new to the industry, collaborating, networking and generally having a good time.

  • I think this year 2024 is probably the most innovative, cutting-edge, head-of-the-curve MPTS that I’ve exhibited at so far. I think even compared to last year, attendees really know what they’re looking for when it comes to cloud, AI, virtual production, all of the buzz words, all of the emerging technologies, everyone’s really embraced it.

  • It's just really nice to come into a big building where all your people are at and everyone is doing the same thing as you and sharing ideas, technologies and solutions. Here it feels like you're among your community.
